Requiem in D Minor KV 626, W. A. Mozart (1756-1791) string quartet version (1810) by P. Lichtenthal (1780-1853)
Introitus: Requiem 250 years after Mozart's birth, this interpretation of Mozart's Requiem by the Quarteto Arabesco is of highest interest. This recently rediscovered version from 1810 by Peter Liechtenthal, never edited and seldomly played, is a fresh revelation of the genius of this composer. Mozart Requiem is considered one of the biggest musical treasures of humanity. This version, that reduces the voices of a symphonic choir and orchestra into four instruments, enables to evidence the key musical elements that characterise this piece, combinig its intensity with a unique purity and simplicity. The interpretation of Qaurteto Arabesco is on historical instruments, intending to be the most faithful as possible to the epoch of its creation. Quarteto Arabesco performed this piece with life transmission to the National Radio Antena 2, the day of Mozart's death (5 December 2006). |
